Lion Dance History
The Quang Minh Lion Dance Group is all about quality. We also belong to the Gia Dinh Phat Tu Quang Minh Buddhist Temple where we practice a specific Lion Dance style called Lân Chiến. This style is very thrilling and filled with motion. It requires a great deal of strength and endurance. Lion Dancing is very similar to the Wu Shu style of martial arts in the movements and stances. Generally there are two people in the Lion at once. One in the head of the lion and one in the tail. There is also the Buddha which acts as the teacher and leader of the lions. The purpose of the Buddha is to guide the lions. Lion Dancing is generally accompanied by drums, cymbals, and/or gongs. These instruments are played loudly and can be heard from quite a distance. The drums also help guide the Buddha and the Lions.
